Indiana Gun Trust
Want to own a weapon classified as a Title II weapon by the ATF (sound suppressors, full autos)? If you want to own these items in Indiana, the best way is to purchase them through a secure gun trust. In order to purchase a sound suppressor for your gun, or to purchase certain assault rifles, short barreled rifles, or short barreled shotguns you must register the weapon the the ATF. You can do this as an individual, but it requires you to submit a photograph of yourself, fingerprints, and it requires you to have written approval by the Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) in your area in order for you to be able to purchase such weapon. With a gun trust, you simply form a trust that is specifically designed to hold your Title II weapons, and you register the trust with the ATF, then you purchase your desired weapons with your trust rather than individually. This allows you to avoid submitting a photograph, fingerprints, and getting CLEO approval.
Additionally, with a gun trust you can list the people you would like to be able to use your Title II weapons as Trustees so that they can enjoy the same advantages of anonymity from the ATF as you. If you register with the ATF to own Title II weapons individually, then the people who you would like to be able to use your Title II weapons will not be able to use those weapons without fear of committing a crime by the simple possession of the weapon. If those people are registered as Trustees under your trust, then they enjoy the same rights to possess the Title II weapons as you do!
